Community Snapshot 01: Who's Using What?

As an ongoing service to the greater Windows IT community, we're publishing the first of our weekly "snapshots" of OS and application usage rates as measured within our own little corner of the industry. These numbers are current as of 06:00 GMT and based on a sample of set of 1,106 contributor systems:

Figure 1 - Contributor Usage by OS Type/SKU

Interpretation: While Windows XP (55%) still makes up the lion's share of our user base, Windows Vista - in its various incarnations - is running a closing second (37%). We'll be checking back each week to chart the progress of XP, Vista and their variations over time, and also to monitor adoption rates for Vista SP1 and XP SP3 when they're released early next year.

Win 2003 Ent with SP2 is more faster than vista (all version). Windows 2003 Ent. SP2 is the most stable server OS in microsoft history, and now XP SP3 will be (may be not depends upon final builds)

If your product is used by some of the largest trading firms in the financial services sector then how come you have metrics for a mere thousand plus systems. That's not very impressive for a benchmark that you claim is in very wide use.

Because:

a) Our commercial customers - which include firms in NYC, London and Hong Kong and which account for over 10,000 deployed seats - aren't factored into the sample set quoted here. This is stricly a measure of systems contributing to the exo.repository.

b) The exo.performance.network was formally launched exactly 2 weeks ago. That's 2 weeks to sign-up over a thousand users. I'd say we're doing pretty well...
